What is ESL?
English as a Second Language [ESL] is an instructional program for students whose dominant language is not English. The purpose of the program is to increase the English language proficiency of eligible students so they can attain academic standards and achieve success in the classroom. This year I am teaching many of the students in grades K and 1 for 45 minutes a day. Instruction focuses on reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Some students receive an additional 45 minutes of in class instruction per day as well.
King currently has 86 English Language Learners. Our ELL students speak 15 different languages and come from 7 different countries.
